The Hollywood Reporter said Vimeo has dissolved the development team.

Our consumption of higher definition video across IP networks continues to grow exponentially, whether due to new broadcast modalities, new “broadcast yourself” trends, or increasing prevalence of UHD/4K channels. Video encoding and transportation represents a challenge because of high bandwidth requirements, and latency is an issue for live streaming. The H.265/HEVC codec can help, potentially saving half the transmission network bandwidth but at a cost of processing complexity that renders software-only implementations uneconomic for wide-scale deployment. Scalable real-time video processing can be achieved by leveraging hardware acceleration technology.

One in five US OTT homes now pay for ‘three or more’ services

19% of streaming subscribers are paying for three or more services – up four percentage points

Consumers are creating their own bundles of video services, starting with Netflix, taken by 95% of multiple streaming consumers, and Amazon Video, taken by 82%. Consumers then add add a combination of subscription and à-la-carte platforms including Hulu, HBO Now and iTunes.

Netflix Reports Strong Q4 Sub Growth

Netflix, which celebrated the ten-year anniversary of the launch of its streaming services, added 1.93 million U.S. streaming subs in the quarter, for a total of 49.43 million, while internationally, the company added 5.12 million streaming subs, expanding that total to 44.37 million. The company generated $8.3 billion in global streaming revenue in 2016, up 35% year-over year. The company said that it expects to add 1.5 million domestic members in Q1, and 3.7 million overseas.
