TCA: Netflix Sets 475 Original Series Hours in 2015

Netflix is on schedule to offer 475 hours of original programming this year, chief content officer Ted Sarandos said during the OTT platform’s Television Critics Association tour session. Netflix will have as many as 16 scripted shows, 12 documentary shows and 17 kids-targeted series on-air in 2015.

IP&TV -- Twitch switches vid controls to HTML5

Streaming gamer platform Twitch is following YouTube’s lead and ditching Adobe’s besieged video player Flash.
The redesign moves the video controls from Flash to HTML5 and Javascript. Twitch stresses that the video itself is still in Flash “underneath the controls.” However, the gaming giant also says the transfer is an important step to releasing a full HTML5 player.

Accessing subscription or free online platforms via a computer or mobile device accounts for 16% of time spent with TV content; online streaming through a traditional TV set makes up another 9%; and 3% comes from other methods for accessing content, such as portable game consoles.

GfK MRI -- Streaming Represents 28% Of TV Viewing

Fully 28% of all TV viewing is now done via digital streaming, according to a study. Research company GfK MRI says that accessing subscription or free online platforms using a personal computer or mobile device accounts for 16% of time spent with TV content. Streaming via a connected TV set accounts for another 9% and using other devices, including game consoles covers another 3%.

Just 67% of Netflix subscribers still subscribe to a traditional pay-TV serive, whil 9% of these plan to cancel and another 16% are unsure if they will still have their pay-TV within the next year.
